Hello!
Hopefully you are here because you live local to Camberley and are writing a book (or perhaps thinking about it) and would like to meet other writers for some mutual feedback and advice. If that's the case, you've come to the right place! I'll tell you a bit about my reason for starting the group, what I hope we can achieve, and a few ideas for how we might go about it. If you are interested, please send me a private message (there's a 'messages' button on the blue bar under the website name) and we can have a chat, perhaps arrange to meet up. You can also email me.
The reason I decided to start this group is because writing can be a lonely process, especially if you don't know anyone else who does! Having attended the Festival of Writing in 2013, I know that talking to other writers in person can be really useful.
The general idea is for members to meet up every once in a while, share our work and give each other feedback. If you're like me, you are the only writer in your house - getting family members to read and give constructive feedback can be difficult, can't it? Either they're busy doing their own thing, or perhaps they will read it but might not want to hurt your feelings by telling you what they really think. In my case, neither of my menfolk read fiction, so asking them to read and comment on a crime/science-fiction story is like pulling teeth!
Who can join? Anyone who is writing, or aspiring to. Books, short stories, screen-writing - fiction, non-fiction...
How often should we meet? Where should we meet? That remains to be agreed. It will depend on where we all live, and what kind of meeting facilities we decide we would like. To start with, a local pub might be an idea, so that we can get to know each other a little. Perhaps we might find a pub with a room to hire, so that we don't have non-members listening in when we share extracts - what do you think? You can either reply to this topic or send me a PM (private message).
What will it cost? Well, if we meet up in the bar of a local pub, only the price of whatever you're drinking! If we decide to hire a room, then the cost would need to be divided by everyone present. If you have another suggestion, please share here!
I hope you will want to join us.
best wishes,
Elaine
